Dancers entering grades 4-12 are eligible to participate in KHSD competition dance. This year we will be starting the year with a placement class. This class will help us evaluate each dancer’s abilities and place them with the best group. We place students in the groups and routines we feel will benefit the dancer and the entire group best. There are many factors we consider, and we have your dancer’s best interests in mind. We will hold a parent meeting on the placement class days to review dancer/parent obligations, planned competitions, financial obligations, etc. Any dancer who wishes to compete and can meet the obligations can participate.

2025/2026 Placement class schedule:
Mayville – Wednesday August 27th
Grades 4-6: 5:00-6:15
Parent Meeting: 6:15-6:45
Grades 7-12: 6:45-8:00
Larimore – Wednesday September 3rd
Grades 7-12: 5:00-6:15
Parent Meeting: 6:15-6:45

At KHSD we typically do 1 large group dance which includes all or most competition dancers and each smaller group (Elite Competition, Supernovas Competition, etc) will have their own group dance as well. This year, we may have some specialty small group numbers as well. If invited to participate, please know that your dancer is obligated to remain in their large group dances as well. Rehearsals for the specialty groups will be posted at the start of the season.

Dancers who have competed for 1 or more years are eligible to compete with a solo, duet, or trio. If your dancer is interested, please let me know asap. The deadline to sign up is September 13th. Choreography sessions are $30/hour, due the day of the session. Sign-ups for these sessions will be emailed to those who have contacted me. When considering a solo/duet/trio, please be aware that many competitions have these dances compete on Thursdays and Fridays, sometimes during the school day.

2026 Possible Competition Season Dates
Triple S Dance Competition: Grand Forks, Chester Fritz Auditorium Feb 20th – 22nd
Gems dance Competition: Grand Forks, March 7th
Precision Arts Challenge: Grand Forks, Chester Fritz Auditorium April 17th-19th
Ovation Dance Challenge: Fargo, Delta Mariott, May 1st-3rd.

Nationals
If there is enough interest, we will again attend Ovation Dance Challenge Nationals competition in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, June 23rd-29th

Average Competition Costs:
Large and small groups – $55-$70 per dancer
Duos and Trios – $70-$90 per dancer
Solos – $120-$150 per dancer

Competition fees will be charged in 3 equal payments due October 1st, November 1st, and December 1st. Fees are non-refundable.
